The scarab finish focuses on an intertwined motif depicting an unbroken series of scarab beetles-insects considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians and figuring highly in their art and mythology. Symbolizing eternal life, the scarab was said to be sacred and has been found in stone, in sculptures, on amulets, and aligned as picture borders and in lieu of marquetry on fine furniture. On LP Aspire congas, the scarab bands intersect upper and lower panels of glistening black lacquer.
