The Godin Session Custom T 59 gets it name from the classic Seymour Duncan '59 neck pickup and the "T" from its Godin T-style ashtray bridge. While many humbucker-neck single-bridge pickup combinations hit or miss due to their sometimes contrasting styles, the Custom '59 is more balanced than most of its ilk. Played through our Mesa Stiletto and Tone Tubby Cabinet, the Alnico 5 Duncan 59 is warm and smooth while still maintaining good attack qualities and a clear top end. The Cajun bridge pickup provides classic country spank with enough midrange heft to keep it from being icy and tiresome. And the unique Godin 5-way pickup switching gives you a lot more flexibility than the old three-position format. Here's how the switch positions work:

1) Neck pickup only - The '59 in all its glory

2) Split humbucker in series with the bridge pickup - A sweet single coil sound with added volume and midrange content from the series wiring

3) Neck to bridge parallel - This is your typical "dual pickup" setting that give you a great balance between hefty low end and sparkling highs

4) Split humbucker in parallel with the bridge pickup - This gives you the tapped humbucker and bridge pickup in a parallel circuit which is how most Tele's are wired. The sound is all single coil, with the bright stringy response and scooped midrange.

5) Bridge pickup only - Welcome to the country. All the bark and the bite you'd want from a T-style guitar.

Besides the "Limited" Coral Blue finish, the Session T '59 also sports Godin's new T-style bridge. Ditching the previous 3-spring vibrato bridge, the new Godin bridge uses 3 hefty adjustable bridge saddles with a specially beveled ashtray plate that gives your hand a place to rest without getting in the way. We think this is a good move, and the string-through fixed bridge gives the guitar more warmth and a solid low end response.

The Session Custom T '59 also features the Godin High Definition Revoicer (HDR), With a simple push button next to the volume and tone controls, the 9V-powered HDR alters the frequency range of each pickup, allowing the player to instantly switch them from passive to active and get more overall bite and clarity. In testing we found this feature quite interesting and the best way to describe it is a built-in presence switch. You could just as easily leave it on all the time and adjust the volume and tone controls to suit your mood.

The Godin formula of value and features is a compelling one, and Godin continues to tweak the recipe to provide new twists and benefits. The Session Custom T '59 adds a more traditional bridge and a lightweight body that makes the guitar more appealing to traditionalists without losing the Godin touch. Breaking the status quo again, the Session Custom T '59 is another Godin hit.
