The Diamond 8 family has a heritage extending over twenty years and throughout has been Britain’s best-selling loudspeaker. This pattern has been repeated around the world with 5 star reviews and accolades in every country in which it has been available.

Wharfedale is a vertically-integrated company that produces every single part of these speakers. As a result they’ve been able to optimize each component, extracting very high performance from these surprisingly inexpensive speaker systems. The tweeter is a 25mm textile dome, ferrofluid-cooled unit employing a high-force neodymium magnet, resulting in excellent efficiency and long component life. A bi-directional KEVLAR™ weave is employed in the 6.5" woofer, far more sophisticated than typical paper cones. The weave inherently reduces resonant frequencies to virtually negligible levels, which means you get far less harmonic distortion. The voice coil is equally innovative; it’s a dual layer, vented design. Venting gets rid of internal heat, which in typical speaker designs is trapped in the voice coil area. As temperatures rise, so does the resistance of the voice coil wire. Result: your efficiency starts to drop, and you tend to push the system harder to make up, shortening component life and increasing distortion along the way. This is not the case with Wharefedale’s vented coil. The woofer cone is mounted on a nitrile rubber ‘Flexaural surround rim’. A profiled phase plug improves the off-axis performance to project an excellent stereo image across a wide listening area. Both components are magnetically shielded, so they can be used with impunity around computer or video monitors as well as TV’s. Power is provided by a Wharfedale-built biamplification section, offering 60 watts in the low end and 40 for the top. An electronic crossover is set at 1.9kHz. Frequency response is exceptionally smooth and flat across most of the audio spectrum.
